Verification System Improved to Prevent Link Issues
We recently identified an issue where email scraping tools and automated security systems were activating one-time password reset and verification links before users could access them. This caused confusion as links appeared invalid or already used.
Issue Raised by a Council Client
A council client reported that their customers were experiencing this issue. We prioritised the investigation and developed a solution immediately.
The Solution
Sensitive links, such as password resets, are now securely displayed on a custom page behind a button. This approach ensures:
- Links are no longer activated by automated systems.
- A clearer, more reliable process for users.
- Improved security against automated email scanners.
This update was implemented overnight and is already live for affected users.
