Rethinking Search From a UI Perspective
Gotta hand it to Chris Parnell for pushing us to see a feature through to its best possible version.
While testing the new advanced search user experience, Chris’s response was, ‘Is the Search button redundant’? What followed was a very productive brainstorming session that resulted in the version we released yesterday.
Sure enough, there is now no ‘Search’ button in our search UI. This is a really interesting move for us as we are taking an established convention and just getting rid of it.
It’s the kind of thing we love about working on a project like SetSeed with a small friendly team. We can be bold and agile with our decision making.
In fact, we don’t think SetSeed would be anything like it is today without that agility.
Of course, the reality of a decision like this involves a lot of technical work and conceptual discussion to ensure the experience really is improved as a result of such a change.
We think it works really well and makes for a really interesting and very fast-feeling search experience.
