Basic and Advanced Search Made Simple
Today, we released the changes to the SetSeed advanced search experience that we wrote about a few days ago.
There are several areas of the system that use this: User Lists, Orders, Page Events, User Events, and Form Submissions.
What’s really cool is that there are many fields that can be exposed or created for data types within these areas. For example, a developer could set up a widget that adds a value to a custom field for a user in a user list.
The advanced search tool then allows the list to be filtered based on a search value for that particular field. Essentially, the advanced search fields list grows along with any available custom fields.
All in all, it's some really powerful functionality that now has the simplicity we demand from this kind of thing.
These screenshots show the search UI in simple and advanced modes. We're really pleased with the way this feels when in use – switching between simple and advanced is extremely simple. The beauty is that the mechanism for showing that you're in advanced mode also makes it clear that the simple search field can't then itself be used. So it both avoids functional ambiguity and provides an intuitive way back to the simple search.
